We provide Adoption Consultations to those just starting the process of expanding their family. When working with couples, we have found that sometimes one partner is more ready to adopt than the other. If this is the case, we help to provide an objective perspective to the path that suits your family best. You may be exhausted by years of trying to conceive and now need to find hope or if you are single, we can help you find the support you need to undertake the ‘intimidating’, yet exciting adoption process. Remember, adoption can be a complicated legal and emotional roller coaster ride.
We will explain the process, which can be complex and feel overwhelming, so you can feel empowered to become the best parent you can be. There are so many confusing adoption options… Choices to make first to decide should you Adopt Domestically or Adopt Internationally, and between Independent Adoption and Agency Facilitated Adoptions and then which agency or Adoption Attorney to hire and what each entails. We are here for you before, during and after.
An adoption consultation with us will help you as a potential adopter to clarify your thoughts about these choices, identify your priorities and choose the kind of adoption professional that will best suit your family’s needs. We can help you find the top agency and/or attorney that can best assist you to safely and ethically adopt a child.
Once you decide to adopt you will need to have an Adoption Home Study completed, whether it be for a Domestic or International Adoption. An adoption home study is required for every type of adoption. There will be a series of interviews that will include at least one home visit, to discuss a wide variety of topics, including your decision to adopt, the characteristics of the child you are hoping to adopt (gender, race, culture), adoption and child rearing issues, your lifestyle and value system and your personal history. The goal is to help others understand and visualize the kind of family you are and home life you will provide for an adopted child and to educate and help you understand the special issues unique to adoptive parenting.
Post Adoption Counseling for parents and their children and teens seeking assistance with adoption-related issues after placement or finalization. Adoption is a life-long process and doesn’t end when your child comes home. We are available to provide counseling services whenever the need arises. We are here to help you answer questions about attachment and provide assistance in helping your child adapt to home life and your teenager deal with identity and separation.
